"Thus Ends the journey of Elder Tanner Ross Paxman in the Brasil São Paulo North Mission."</div>
<br />
Holy cow, its over. Well ... almost. This is the last email, and that's super weird.
I cant believe it. I'm trying to convince myself that its true, but I think I
will realize it only after I get in the plane. wow. Its super weird to think
next week Ill be home, Ill be in my normal ward. Strange. Anyways, The work went
pretty well this week, we were able to baptise Aloisio on Sunday after church
meetings. He is super elect. We had a "Multirão do Ramo" which is were the
members come, and go handing out and inviting people to go to the branch
conference, and both him, and also Stefanie (another recent convert) came and
helped out. It went pretty well. We also had another amazing conference with
Elder Jairo Mazzagardi of the Seventy. It was really good. We were able to work
with several people, and I hope that the new Elder finds this area in good shape
and takes good care of it. I will miss my Ramo of Jaguaré. I'm really going to
miss Brasil and all the friends that I have made here. I am so thankful for
technology so that Brasil wont be too far ... I am really excited to go home, and
am looking forward to seeing all the people from back home. Its like a torn
heart. Between a country and people that I've grown to love so much, and all
those that I love that I will return too. But my time has come, so home, here I
come. But I would like to leave a scripture as well. Its in Psalms 37:4-5. If we
delight in the Lord, He will give us our hearts desires, and if we trust in Him,
He will do anything for us. I am so grateful for the Lord, and for my great
opportunity to serve as an Elder in the Brasil São Paulo North Mission. I love
all you guys, and one last scripture that's in 2nd John 1:12. I'll be back in a
couple of Days, I love you all, and wish you the best. Until we next meet.<br />

Us and our pesquisador friend, Aloisio!</div>
<br />
Wow, times flies. Its super weird. This will be my last full week in the
mission. Where did all that time go? That's so weird. We already had our exit
interviews with President, and that was super weird. It was like, "why is
president talking about all this stuff? am I really going home?" It still hasn't
fully hit yet. So, I guess you all heard about the new missions, and yes our
mission will be affected. Our mission will be divided, but more details will
come later. Its super exciting. Oh, and before I forget, HAPPY BIRTHDAY AMY! I
can hardly believe its been a year. It'll be so good to see all my nieces and
nephews when I get back. Anyways, the work is going great here in Brazil. We
have several people that we are working with, and our hope is that this week we
will have a baptism. I am feeling so strange at the end of the mission, it not
feeling real at all, but we are ready to work hard this week. "Lets work until
the water!" (Vamos Trabalhar até a agua! ou, Pia Batismal!). We are working with
a pesquisador called Aloisio that is an awesome guy. And we have been working
with several of the recent converts as well. Its been going great here. I am so
thankful to be on the mission. I just wanted to leave a message in Alma 37:16.
Its when Alma tells his son about the plates, but I believe it applies to all of
us. If we keep the commandments, we will prosper, and Satan will have no power
over us. God will fulfill all His promises if we but keep our part. God truly
is all powerful, and will bless us, all we need to do is keep the commandments.
We need to always move forward, always counseling with the Lord for the best way
to move forward. I hope that all you guys have a great week, and I love you all.<br />

Baptism of Sarah (2)!</div>
<br />
Wow, so this week went by really fast. I can hardly believe it. But, it
happened, so I guess I have to. Ha. (Sorry for the lame humor). This last week,
Elder Allan was feeling pretty sick, and I wasn't doing to great myself ... so it
wasn't the best week ... but we are anxious to work this week. I also did a division
with Elder Long, where it poured rain a dang lot! There were lots of huge puddles,
and even waterfalls coming down stairs. Its pretty cool stuff. I do love a good
thunder and lightning storm. This week, Sarah was baptised, and she asked me to
baptise her, so that was cool. It went great, and we are excited for her. As for
Bruno, we talked to him quickly on the street, and looks like he had family in
town, and also that he traveled a little. We have some great leaders here in the
branch, and the work seems to be going well. We have some people that are
progressing, and we are trying to help people be ready for baptism. I would like
to leave a thought from Alma 44:3-4. We need to exercise true faith, and
righteous faith in our lives. The Lord will help us in all that we do, and we
can receive all the blessings that God wants for us, and we can "prosper in the
Land," if we but keep the commandments of God. We may not be in a literal fight,
but everyday we have to fight against the servants of the Devil. I hope that all
of you have the strength and power this week to overcome your "enemies," and
exercise your faith. The Lord blesses the Righteous! Its as simple as that. I
love you all, and wish you all a great week.<br />

Cliff and I ... ha.</div>
<br />
Times flies when your a missionary. And I can hardly believe that its already
been a week. Its weird that my time is running out as a missionary. Lets do
this! As for couple missionaries in our mission, I don't even know... There was a
couple at the beginning of my mission, but I haven't seen any since then. I've
seen some that serve "here," but I don't know if they are part of our mission.
This past week was a pretty good week as we had the Baptism of Stefanie. She
came to the Branch one week, after several months of being invited by Elder
Wolfe while he was on a division. Then she travelled, and now everything calmed
back down, and she was finally able to be baptised. It was the first baptism at
our Branch building. All the rest have been at the Chapel in another area. It
was in a type of pool that we set up, and we filled it up with a slow going
hose, and a lot of Buckets. That was pretty cool. It also was leaking the whole
time as well, so we had to fill it up enough so it wouldn't lower to much. The
leak wasn't too much though ... In the end, she was Baptised and all went well, so
that was way cool. We also have another Baptism planned for this week that is
the daughter of a member that was inactive for some time. She came back when she
moved here, and asked us to teach her daughter. Sara is her Daughter and is
about 10 years old. We also are working with several Rapazes (Young men, + or -)
about our age. One of them is ready to be baptised, and just needs to go to
church. His name is Henrique, and he is pretty cool. The other is Aloisio, and
we found him the other day when a drunk called us over and talked to us. Then he
called Aloisio over to pray with us, and we went to his house and taught him. He
seems like a cool guy. We hope that he also progresses to be baptised. We haven't
seen Bruno since the day he was confirmed, but we are planning to go there
tonight. I am doing great here, and am loving the mission. I also wanted to send
home a scripture that is in Ether 12:6. It is indeed a scripture mastery, but I
hope that we always decide to take the step of Faith in our lives. The Lord
loves all of us, and wants us all to be happy, but happiness doesn't come on a
silver platter. True happiness comes through our work and devotion to eternal
things and keeping the commandments of God. That involves us taking our first
steps of faith, and getting up every time that we fall. We will never really
understand the ways of God in this life, but what we can understand is that He
is our Loving Father in Heaven, and will bless us according to our faith. I hope
that we all can focus on our faith, do God's will. Blessings appear to come to
those that do wrong things, but the so called "blessing" is but a small moment
that will be drown out by the great misery that comes from sin. The Righteous
will always be blessed, and the Lord blesses us so that all things are possible
through our faith. I love you all, and hope that you all can have a great week
this week.<br />

Wow, the weeks are just flying by ... Its crazy. Its weird to think I only have a
few more weeks left. Oh well, its time to go out with a bang. So, I am still
here in Jaguaré with Elder Allan, though Elder Hendrixson was transferred and now
Elder Long (Utah) is living with us too with his companion Elder Vazquez. Sounds
crazy with all the people getting back from missions, and it'll be great to see
them. So this past week we had a going away party Tuesday night for Elder
Hendrixson, and then started our next transfer. This past week was great as we
were able to baptise a young boy of 13 years of age (Bruno) that is the cousin of Léo.
He is an awesome guy, and it is great getting to work with him, and all their
families. We also are working with several other people ... and aside from getting
avoided by some ... others are progressing and have great potential. We hopefully
have some baptisms on the way too. I am happy, and having a great time preaching
and testify of our Savior and Redeemer. I am so grateful to be a part of this
great and marvelous work. Its strange to think it will end some day, but I will
do my part until I am released from my duties as a full time missionary. The
great part about the Gospel, is that it applies to all. Its sad at times, that
the world grows so far away from the paths of God. I was reading in the
scriptures today, and came across a scripture in Alma 41:11. Truly people only
think they are happy when they follow the natural or carnal man, but really they
are far from it. What is one small moment of false and indignant happiness
compared to an eternal happiness without end? The path that we need to take is
here, and once we know it, we need to continue until we reach our destination.
The path does not move itself, it is us ourselves that move from the path. But
just as much as we move away, we can return. And we can only return through the
Atonement of Jesus Christ. I know that Jesus Christ is our Savior and Redeemer,
and that he loves us, and that through His atonement we can overcome the natural
man and have no reason to fear. The Gospel is a message of Joy, and it will
bring all those that follow it a greater joy and happiness. The Church of Jesus
Christ of Latter-day Saints is Christ's church, and the Kingdom of God, on this
earth. I love you all, and hope that this week is amazing for all of you.

PS: There are some great foods here like Pão de Queijo which is amazing. Its bread with
cheese in the batter. Basically a roll made of cheese. Its good stuff. Most the
stuff here - they have there. Or at least I could make it. Like Puddim. Its
really good stuff too. Its like pudding, but its more solid and is in a round
form. The chocolate is different here so that it doesn't melt at such a
low temperature ... I think the American is better ... As for fruits; some are seasonal. Some trees give fruit two or more times in the year
normally. Some give fruit all year round too. It depends on the fruit.</div>

Wow, its almost February... Time flies super fast ... that is super weird. This week I
will start my last transfer here in the mission. I think that I will be staying
with Elder Allan here in Jaguaré, but I'll find out for sure tonight. So, this
last week has been full of stuff happening. On my Birthday we went bowling which
was super fun. I got in last place by a long shot ... but it was still fun. Ha. We also
had brownies and a huge "firework like" candle. It was sweet. Then on Tuesday I
got my package at a mission conference. The mission conference was amazing. All
of São Paulo North, and São Paulo Interlagos were there. Around 360 missionaries
together, that was way cool. Elder Christensen from the Presidency of the
Seventy, and Elder Mazzagardi from the Seventy were both there, and it was
an amazing meeting. Also, an Elder Cragun came up to me, and apparently he is
good friends with Brenton (Elder Paxman currently) since he is from
Corona. Small world. Then, I had a division with Elder Hendrixson, and he
worked with me for a day, which went great. He made amazing Fajitas for Almoço
since we got money to buy food. They were delicious. Then, the Zone leaders came
to do some interviews, and yet another time, the person that would be baptised
couldn't be baptised this past week. This time it was because her Mom doesn't
think that she is ready. Its weird how people progress ... and get almost to
baptism ... and then start to avoid us -- but it makes up part of this work. The plan is
to have a baptism this coming week of a young boy that is called Bruno. He is
the cousin of Léo, who was baptised recently. The work continues to move
forward. Today, I would like to mention a scripture in Mosiah 4:2-3. We all can
be cleansed from sin through the Atonement of Jesus Christ. The Atonement of
Jesus Christ is the most important thing that has happened since the creation of
the world. Everything in the Gospel has a connection with the Atonement of
Christ. I know that Jesus Christ suffered for our sins, and that through His
Atonement, we can be saved. The Atonement is of much greater significance than
we can image, and I know that through it, we can be saved. I love you all, and
hope that you all have a great week.<br />

fyi: My plan for when I get home is to go back to BYU-I, which starts about a month
or so after I get back. The bad part of "Carnival" here is only on TV -- which we
don't watch -- so we are good. Its not too huge here in our area. Last year was super tranquil
since I was in the interior (out in the country - smaller city). The end of the mission is
the same as it has been my whole mission -- just working hard here with all the great
Brazilians that need to be baptised.</div>

Sounds like good times at home, and I'm having a great B-day today too.
This past week was a crazy week, and I got caught a couple of times without an umbrella or raincoat. I got soaked! Holy Cow, my time is already running out.
Anyways, this last week passed by really fast. We have been working with several
pesquisadores, and we found some new people to be baptised. The work is moving
forward here. Hopefully in this next week we will have a couple of baptisms.
Elder Allan and I are working hard, and having a good time here in Jaguaré. I
went on a division with Elder Nogueira, and that was great, though we took a
wrong ônibus and had to run around the town getting soaked. And I would like to
send home Ether 12:4. Our Faith and our works will be but an anchor to our
souls. Always remember to rely on your faith, and be involved in good works so that
we can be strong, and we can strengthen others. I love you all, and hope that you
all have a great week.</div>

<br />
This past week flew by really fast. And no, I'm not in a threesome. Ha. I thought
I had mentioned it before, but I live with another companionship of Elders.
There names are Elder Hendrixson (Utah/California), and Elder Vasquez
(Paraguay). We have some good times. P-Days are pretty sweet. Ha. We are all
great friends. So this week was really a rainy week, and it got relatively cold
here .... well - that is compared to what is normally is here - especially when you are used to
the heat. Ha. We have been working with some people to progress towards baptism,
and the work is going well. We also got to have some wonderful Domino's Pizza
with a family here - only one member of the family is active right now. They are all great
people. We have been working with some of the recent converts, and also with some
old pesquisadores, and we are always finding new ones as well. We have really
been trying to fulfill our purpose as missionaries, and are working hard here. I
know that this truly is the Lords work. Now is the time. A passage of scripture
that I wanted to pass this week is in Alma 34:17-28. We should always pray to
Heavenly Father in all moments, at all times, and about all things. We also
should strive to be charitable, and therefore we can be the answer to someones
prayer. The Lord loves us, and wants us to be happy. He will answer our prayers,
and we need to be willing to be an answer to a prayer. I love you all, and hope
that you all have a great week.<br />
<br />
May we all increase in our faith.

Another week passes by (sort of), and that was quick. Yep, We had some good
times. Elder Allan and Elder Hendrixson are both awesome guys, and we always
have great adventures. And also, before I forget, HAPPY BIRTHDAY TRAYDEN!
Anyways, this past week, we have been about the regular mission life, and that's
always great. We have met a couple of new families and others that we are trying
to work with to progress towards baptism. Its always interesting all the
different types of people that we meet here in the mission ... We have met drunks
that prophesy, drunks that are "the son of the Son of God," and all
sorts of fun drunks ... We also have met some people that have very interesting
views about life, some that have bunnies inside their house, and others that
like to talk to us in the street, and ask to hear "the word" and but not want us to
teach them at their house. The mission is great. Ha. We do meet lots of sane
people too, and they always seem pretty cool. Anyways, I also would like to
leave a scripture with you all, that is Alma 41:10. The world looks so much on
worldly things to make them happy, but the real happiness comes from keeping the
commandments of God. I love you all, and wish you all a great week.<br />

<br />
So, first off, sorry for not giving you guys a warning about not writing you
guys until today ... but the other day was December 31st, and none of the Lan
Houses were open when we went to find them ... so President let us write today.
Anyways, HAPPY 2013!!! Oh Yeah! Úau (wow), time really has been flying by, I cant
believe its already 2013. It was Christmas, with an amazing talk with my family,
and then New Years. Time flies. So, New Years here is a huge party where all the
nonmembers go, get drunk, and party all night. There are lots of fireworks and
stuff here. I mean lots ... its like a war zone here, with loud bangs, and noises
going off like crazy, and not just at midnight either. Ha. It was great though.
This last week we were able to baptise a young women who finally decided to be
baptised after a while of knowing that it was true. Her name is Cássia. That
went really well, and several missionaries were happy after working with her for
some time now. Other than that, we have been working hard, and Elder Allan and I
are doing great. I am loving the mission and am excited to be here working. I
wanted to pass along a scripture in 3 Nephi 27:27. Especially with the new year,
I think it is really important that we make new goals for the year, and include
the Savior in these goals. I think we all should try and set goals to make
ourselves better. I love you all, and hope that you all have a great
week.<br />

Dearest Family and Friends,<br />
<br />
MERRY CHRISTMAS! Yay! Its here ... though it doesn't at
all feel like it. Also, this week is someones birthday, so HAPPY BIRTHDAY KITT!
So, now for the big news: I am now training my new companion, Elder Allan from
Draper, Utah. He is crazy, funny, and a great guy. It's going great. We are both
excited to talk to our families tomorrow. So, this last week was my second talk
in the mission that we gave in sacrament meeting, and that went pretty well. We
are working on Elder Allan's Portuguese and we are working with several families
and people to be baptised. Everything is going super great, and I am really
happy here in the mission. I hope that everything is going great with all of you
guys, and that you all will have a great Christmas. I also want to send a
scripture that is very similar to last weeks, but it is the accounting of what
happened in the Americas on Christmas. Its 3 Nephi 1:19-21. Christ is our Lord
and Savior, and I bear my testimony that this is His Church, and that He lived
and died for us, and now He lives again. I hope that you all can remember our
Savior and Redeemer Jesus Christ this Christmas day. Sadly my time is already
running out, but I still will be able to talk to some of you guys tomorrow. I love you
all, and once again, Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night.<br />

Lots of good memories at this wonderful time of the year. It truly is the "most
wonderful time of the year." So we just received Transfers, and it looks like
I'll die training. In other words; I will now be training again, and I find out
who on Wednesday. I am staying here in the area though, which will be awesome,
even though I'll miss Elder Wolfe. So, this morning, Elder Nóbrega left us to go
back to his home, as he completed his mission. That was super weird... that's got
to be a weird feeling at the end of the mission. He was hilarious and a great
missionary. These transfers will be great and interesting. I am excited for these
coming weeks, and this week went great as well. We were able to baptise my two
friends Gabriel, and Léo, who are both about 12 years old, and are pretty
awesome. Ha. They both will be a great example in their families. We are working
with Léo's mom to be baptised as well, but she needs to complete the law of
Chastity. We have several other people that we are working with as well, and are
trying to help a lot of people to be baptised. I am excited to be able to train
again, and remember all the basics that I will be able to teach. The work is
going well, and we are always trying to improve. Please keep praying for us, and
for our investigators. I wanted to send home a scripture that is in Helaman
14:3-8 that talks about the signs of Christ's Birth. I always think it is
important to remember the "why" of the Christmas season. Our Savior and Redeemer
was born and gave us so many great gifts including eternal life if we but do
what He asks. I ask you all that as you go about giving and getting gifts, to
think about what you will give to the Savior this Christmas Season. I know that
our Savior lives, and I know that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day
Saints is His Church on this Earth. I love you all, and wish you all a great
week before Christmas.<br />

Yup ... we're weird ... and pretty scary ...</div>
<br />
<div>
This week flew by yet again. Its weird. Anyways, its been a pretty good
week. I even got a package from Amber! Yay! And this past week was our Mission
conference and we had a gift exchange for Natal (Christmas). I got a
compactable sack. Ha. People are crazy. The conference was really amazing as
well. President Martins is a really inspired man, and I know that he was called
of God. This past week, we have been working with several people to try and
progress towards baptism and we were able to baptise irmã Gesi this week. That was
a cool experience, and hopefully next week we will have a similar experience as well.
We are really trying to fulfill our potential as missionaries and servants of
God in this part of the world. The work is going well, and we are trying to find
new people, and help the "older" ones to progress. Elder Wolfe and I have a
good friendship, and we are working hard. Transfers are next week, and so we'll
see what happens then. Our President showed us a scripture that I really liked,
and I would like to share with all of you. It is in Genesis 18:14 when three men
of God visit Sariah (or Sarah), and told her that she would have a Child ... and
she thought that it was too difficult to happen. The Men replied with the first line
that I like a lot. Truly all is possible with the Lord, and nothing will be
"too hard" if He is on our side. I love you all, and hope that you all have a
great week this week. </div>

PS: As for Christmas songs -- they are all pretty much the same, just sung in
Portuguese. They do have the same melody. English is better. Ha. They have some
songs like jingle bells, and they have quite a bit of music in English too. <span style="color: black;"> As for Christmas decorations, its pretty much the same stuff.
Some houses have lights and stuff. They all seem to have fake Christmas trees
like we sometimes do in the states. (Though real is better). And they do have
some nativities like ours. The biggest and strangest differences, is that there
is no snow, and its really hot outside. Ha.</span><br />
<span style="color: black;">PSS: The Temple here is a small temple and it is about an hour or so from us by bus. </span><br />

We took fotos for Christmas - this is us walking back to the camera</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
So, this time it wasn't exactly a week, but it sure went fast. Ha. So, the other
day, we were walking and we went to leave a pesquisadores house, and it started
to rain, they invited us to wait out the rain, but we decided to risk it under
the tiny umbrella that we had. We ran into another family that wasn't previously
home, and we were able to mark with them, and I said, God sure works in
mysterious ways. Then, the rain really started with thunder and lightning, and
it got really close, it even hit a building right next to us. We decided to stop
under an overhang of someones roof, and get a little bit out of the rain. A
young man showed up trying to get into the house, and he stayed there a long
time. I thought it was weird he doesn't just go home, but then a young women came
out about 15 minutes later, and turns out he was trying to go home. Ha. They
invited us in, and we ended up teaching them. It was great! We are hoping that
they can progress in the gospel. My time is already short, but I wanted to pass
along Alma 26:37. God is mindful of every person on this earth and knows us by
name. He loves us and wants us to be happy. He will have mercy on us, according
to our obedience and our diligence. I love you all and hope you have a great
week.<br />

First of all, sorry I forgot to advise you all, we went to the temple this week
so our P-Day was moved to today. Lots of crazy things happened. And also, HAPPY
BIRTHDAY CHRIS! Today the temple was awesome ... and I also got three packages. (1
From Family, Other Grandma, and Other Rachel). So, I forgot to mention, even
though I am not a zone leader anymore, I still am a district leader, and so I
give trainings, and still do baptismal interviews. So as I mentioned this last
week has had some adventures. We found a family, and we are teaching them and
helping them as well. The little boy said that he prayed and asked for help on
his test, and that God sent us as little angels ... he said that one of us was on
his head, and the other on his shoulder. Apparently we helped him on his test,
though one of us almost fell off when he shook his head. It is a Mom, Graça, and
her son, Léo, and his friend Gabriel. We also started teaching Gabriel's family.
But that's not all, we also have a super nature aware member in our ward, that
has her own garden, and we got to eat leaves and flowers for Almoço, and other
stuff she grew in her garden. It turned out great. Also, probably since this week was
longer without P-Day I started falling asleep while talking and teaching an old
man. It was a good thing it was that old man though ... it was rather funny ... I
am thinking there was something in the almoço that we ate. Ha. All was well though.
Ivan, Renata, and Emily are a family, and we are still teaching and helping
them. I want to send home 2 Nephi 32:3. Always remember to search the
scriptures. I love you all, and have a great week.<br />

PS: I am not that far from my last area, I am in São Paulo, the city itself. We
live in a house type thing. Its like a duplex, and we are surrounded by members.
We have some flies and other little bugs, but nothing that we can't
handle.Elder Paxmanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15870240920307349507noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8477278381677096531.post-6651527362957753362012-11-19T14:38:00.000-08:002012-11-19T18:34:24.429-08:00November 19, 2012Another week passes by, and I'm still doing great. Time still is flying by as
well. Elder Wolfe and I are great friends and excited to work here in Jaguaré.
I got a package from the "fam" this week, yet again all re-wrapped. They like to
look at all the goodies I'm going to get. Ha. Oh, before I forget, HAPPY BIRTHDAY
LAINE! Craziness that he is already two. So many crazy things. This week, we
have been working with a family of three, Ivan, Renata, and Emily. They are
super cool, and really progressing in the Gospel. Ivan came to church on Sunday
which was great. We also are having lots of family nights, and trying to work a
lot with the members. Things are going great here, and I'm loving the mission.
One time, my companion sat down on a bench to rest for a little, and we heard a
weird noise. It sounded like a high pitched voice. We looked over, and a
papagaio ("parrot") was looking at us. It started talking to us,
and singing as well. Also, we had a funny experience at church. We went outside
between the classes to make a phone call, and we saw a pesquisadora passing in
front of the gate. She looked at us, and then she took off running. I went to
look from the gate, and she was still running a ways down the street. It was
about a 50 year old lady in a skirt. That was pretty funny. So, this week I
wanted to pass along Alma 23:7. We all need to put down our weapons of
rebeliion, what ever they are. I love you all, and have a great week.<br />

PS: As for advertising here, its pretty much
the same as the US, with billboards, TV ads, and lots and lots of little paper
pamphlets. There are lots of little self owned stores here
-- they don't have much advertising. </div>

So, here comes the big news. I was transferred to the zone of Osasco, and the
area of Jaguaré. I am now with Elder Wolfe, who has a little more than six
months in the mission. He is super awesome, and things have been going great. He
is from Tennessee, and I'm his second companion in the field. I'm getting to know
the area, and we are working hard trying to help several families progress
towards baptism. And my second day here, I already went to do a baptismal
interview in another area, called Jardim Veloso, and stayed there with Elder H
Santos. That was crazy being so soon after the transfer, but it went well. In my
new area, we live with another companionship of Elders. The other Elders are
Elder Nóbrega, and Elder Vazquez. A Brazillian and a Paraguyian (please spell
that right for me). This area, is pretty small, and was created into a Branch
about two months ago. It'll be super great to work here. There are about 35
active members that go each week for now. There are some really cool members and
recent converts here as well. I am really excited to be here, and Elder Wolfe
and I are ready to work. The area is pretty normal for Brasil, and has nothing
too dangerous, and is a great place to work. We have some elect families like
the family of Ivan, Renata, and their daughter Emily. There are several people
that are super close to baptism, but havent decided to enter the water yet, and
we are working and praying for them. I also heard that I have a package from my
family waiting for me tomorrow. I wanted to send home a scripture that is found
in Alma 30:44. Its when there is a man that wants to deny God, but we already
have had so many witnesses that God really exists. Not only people that believe
that he does, and not only the Prophets, but also the World in and of itself
testifies that God exists. I also want to bear my testimony that God lives, and
that he loves us all, and wants us to return and live with Him. I love you all,
and hope you all have a great week.<br />

Wow, time flies. Its already transfer weeks, and we find out tonight about
the transfers. Or, just kidding, Presidente just called me right now,
and thanked me for the time I served as zone leader, and told me that I would be
transferred to a new area. That was unexpected. Anyways, Its so exciting to see
so many people that are getting their mission calls back home. A mission is an
amazing thing for our lives. This week has been another average week in
missionary life, though we have been helping Ricardo and his family a lot. I
have already noticed a huge change in Ricardo, and its amazing to see that
change. (A mighty change of heart). When we change, it might not all be at once,
because this kind of change is a lifelong progress. Ricardo also has another
daughter that is eight years old, and I'm sure that he will baptise her soon, as
Ricardo also received the Aaronic Priesthood this past Sunday. We are working
with there extended family as well, as there are several less actives and
non-members that are great people. Their family is crazy, its super funny. We
are really trying to expand our teaching pool as well, and find more people that
are wanting and willing to progress towards baptism. I'm having a great time on
the mission and am excited to be here. This week I will pass along a scripture
in Mormon 9:12-14. We, as "men", are impure, and could not enter into the
Kingdom of God, but through Jesus Christ we are made clean. Truly it is only
through Christ and His sacrifice that everything is possible. If we are keeping
the commandments of God, then we will be happy, and we will be restored to
happiness. There are no greater blessings than that which God gives us through
our obedience. I love you all, and hope that you all have a great week this
week.</div>

opposite for us. As for golf courses - I believe that they have a few here, but I
have no idea ... They probably aren't in my mission -- nothing famous that I know of.
As missionaries, we only can do zone activities every 3 months, and normally
they are soccer or something similar. We normally stay home and rest on P-Days ... there isn't too much to do. Sometimes there are hikes or bowling, or something
random, but those are rare. I'm sure they have other sports here that people play ...
but normally its soccer soccer soccer.</div>

Wow, Time flies. All of my Nephews and Nieces are so huge in those
pictures. Craziness! And they aren't the only ones getting older, HAPPY BIRTHDAY
ROBERT! and also HAPPY BIRTHDAY GRANDPA NEWTON! So, last week, I forgot to
mention, but I went on a division with Elder Oxborrow, and he is awesome. This
week I also got to do another division with Elder Nielson! Great times. Brownie
Milkshakes, and Açai Smoothies. Divisions are great. Ha. But there were several
reasons why we did these divisions, including, a baptismal interview. Ricardo
decided to be baptised, and therefore he was baptised on Saturday! It was so
great. We were all so happy! This will really change their lives, and I can see
that he really is changing. Ricardo and his family are awesome people. The work
is going good here, as we are always trying to find and teach everyone that we
can. The mission really is important, and I am so glad to be here. The Lord
blesses us so much. This week, I wanted to pass on a scripture that is in Acts
5:41. They both were happy to suffer for Christs sake. We always should be
willing to sacrifice, being great or small, for the Lord. The Lord
loves us, and through our works, we will be blessed. I love you all, and hope
that you all have a great week. </div>

PS: As for Halloween; they do kind of have it here ... it is very little though - not really
celebrated. An English school has a lot of decorations, however, most people sometimes do
little things, but nothing big that I know of. As for Mitt Romeny, I just hear
that he is running for President, and don't really hear much in favor or against.

Pablo is a Rapaz that is preparing for his mission here in the next year.</div>
<br />
<div>
I am utterly surprised that yet another week has passed. But, do what? Ha.
This week was another average missionary week. We are working with several
families to progress towards baptism, and several new people that we have been
finding. Ricardo is the father of Alessandro, and Ricardo's wife, Claudia, is
not active in the church. His wife's cousin is active in the church. Her name
is Sandra, and she has several kids that go to church as well. We also will
start to work with her brothers which are both inactive that were both married
this last week. Ricardo is a great guy, and he seems to be progressing towards
baptism, and he likes the church. We also are working with another less active
family, that the mother, and two youngest all aren't baptised. They are pretty
cool people as well. The mother suffered an accident a while back, and both legs
and an arm were broken. She still is unable to walk. Also, her "husband" got up
and left her recently as well. We are working with them, and she also is the
sister of a member of our ward. They are also helping us to bring this family
unto Christ. This week, I was reading in the Book of The Acts, and came upon a
scripture that I would like to pass on. Its found in Acts 10:34-35. Our Heavenly
Father created all of us, and therefore we are all His children. He loves us all
equally, and wants all of us to be happy. He doesn't bless one more than another
because he loves them more, but its according to our obedience. If we keep the
commandments, then God will bless us. All of us on the earth have the same
oportunidade to keep the commandments of God, and be blessed. God loves each
and everyone of you, and wants all of us to be happy. I hope that we all can
look as God does, and love all mankind, and continue firm in the faith. I love
you all, and have a great week.</div>

<div align="center">
A COISA BRANCA! The lovely invention Elder Reis invented (milk, cornstarch, salt ... with ketchup on top)</div>
<br />
<div>
So, if you can believe it or not, its already been a week since the last
time I wrote. Time is just flying faster and faster, and when I look back, I am
always shocked at how much happened. I can't believe that Elder Reis and I have
already been together for three weeks ... time flies. Its already somebodies
birthday. HAPPY BIRTHDAY HEATHER! Yay! Hope that this Day is wonderful for you.
So, this week has been a normal week in the life of a missionary. Wake up,
study, go visit people, eat Almoço, visit more people, walking até o pó (until
the dust), go home, plan, pray, write in journal, go to bed. Ha. Its a great life though. I'm loving it.
We are working with several people, and trying to help them progress towards
baptism. One of these people is Ricardo, who is the father of Alessandro. We are
working with their family, and they are pretty cool. We get to know a lot of
people as missionaries. The thing that is probably most exciting (unusual) out of
everything this week, is that one night we got home, and had only a few
ingredients for food, but we were hungry. So, therefore, Elder Reis invented "A
Coisa Branca!" (The White Thing). It wasn't too bad. Ha. So this week, I would
like to highlight Alma 13:28-29. It has some counsel for all of us, and a goal that
we can accomplish. We need to humble ourselves and be ever watchful about the
evils of the world. When we do this we can be led by the Spirit in all things.
We should always strive to live our life in such a way that we are always led by
the Holy Ghost. We need to continue with our Faith always pressing forward
towards our final and greatest goal which is eternal life. If we do this, always
following the Holy Ghost with the Love of God in our Hearts, we can, and will be
lifted up in the last day. I love you all, and hope that this week is a great
week for all of you and that you can all seek to follow the Holy Ghost in all
things. </div>

PS: I'm sorry to hear about Aunt Lorraine ... but we know that she'll be in a better place now. Our knowledge of the great plan of Salvation is what lifts us up in these times
of trial. We may not know the why, but God knows, and everything is done with a
purpose. And as for Stake Presidents and bishops; the calling time is the same
amount as the states (bishop - normally 5 years, stake president - normally 10
years). Normally the stakes here consist of 6 wards, and all the wards have
about 120 people, sometimes less and rarely more. I heard that there is an
English speaking ward somewhere in Brazil, but I think that that's a rumor. Ha. I also
heard that one stake has a single adult ward, but that is really rare here. They
normally just have a single adults class, and have activities and institute with
a lot of stakes.<br />

<div>
Another week passes, and this past week was an amazing General conference!
Yay! That was pretty dang awesome. I love conference. We were able to watch all
of the sessions, though we ended up watching the Priesthood session in
Português. The age announcement about missionaries is super cool, and was
completely unexpected. That will sure help the number of missionaries to increase.
wow. The other Americans and I were really enjoying Elder Nelsons talk, and
thinking, wow, I guess we are the solution for everything. Ha. Just Kidding. I
loved all of the talks, and I really enjoyed the first session. Unfortunately,
none of our pesquisadores could watch it, since it wasn't in our church building,
but it was farther away. This weekend was the highlight of our week. Not only
was it general conference, but we had a baptism. Alessandro is a young boy of 10
years of age, and his Mom is a less active member, but he has been going to
church with his moms cousin. He has been wanting to be baptised for a while, and
finally everything worked out. It was really exciting. He will be confirmed
this coming Sunday. Other than these great events, its been the usual going
around teaching and finding. Elder Reis was 6 years old when his family joined
the church. And this is his fourth transfer as a zone leader. All is going good,
and we are trying to do our part. I wanted to send home a scripture that's in
Doctrine and Covenants 14:7. The greatest gift that we can achieve is Eternal
life. God loves us, and according to our diligence, He will help us achieve this
gift. We should all review the talks that our living prophets have said to us,
and always look forward to the eternal rewards and blessings. I love you all,
and hope that you all have a great week this week.</div>

Another week flew by. Time is super weird. It feels like Elder Reis and I
have been together for a long time, but at the same time it passed by so fast.
And yes, that means that Elder Nogueira was transferred, and I'm here with my new
companion, Elder Reis from Rio De Janeiro! (He-oh, g, janer-o). He is pretty
cool, and things are going well here. Before I continue, I need to say, HAPPY
BIRTHDAY AUTUMN! Yay! And now, what makes a favela different? Well, its not very
well organized, normally has drug trafficking, is a little more dangerous (don't
worry), and its a little more poor. A member lives in the favela, and therefore,
we went and visited her and some of her neighbors. So this week we have been
working with several pesquisadores that we are trying to help progress
towards baptism. We are also working with less active and new member families
to try and strengthen everyone. Its been a good week. We are working in some new
areas, and we are working hard. I am so excited for general conference this
week, and hope that everyone can go and watch it. A living prophet isn't a small
thing. I wanted to send home a scripture that is found in 1 Nephi 17:3. We must
fulfill and keep all of God's commandments. It isn't an option that we can choose
to follow or not -- we need to follow them, being every human being on this
earth. When we do follow them -- God will help us to complete our part -- and he
will even bless us beyond those blessings. God loves us, and he will always make a way for His commandments to be completed by us. The Lord will provide for us when we
trust in Him, and do what He says. We have nothing to fear if we are doing the
right things and trusting in the Lord. I love you all, and hope that you all
have a great week.<br />

PS: The high schools here don't have teams that play against other high schools. They
just have things like PE. And they don't really play football here, its rather
rare. Ha. Its all soccer. As for Cars here, they are really expensive and
normally are small. They cost double or triple of the cost in the states ...
maybe even more. Practically all the cars here are small. A Honda Civic is an
upper class car here. There are some brands that are the same as the states, and
some that are different. But they still drive on the same side of the road, and
the same side of the car. Automatic cars are a lot more rare here though. Only
the rich can afford them. Its practically all manual here.</div>

Another week Gone. Strange, não é? So this week we talked to a lot of
people as well. Also, Believe it or not, this week is Transfers yet again. Wow,
how time flies. We'll see if I'll stay here, or if I'll have a new companion and
all that jazz tonight. I'll let you all know next week. Other than the
transfers, there really isn't much exciting. Ha. We are working with some less
active families, and working with a lot of pesquisadores that hopefully will
progress, and in the end, be baptised. We are planting a lot of seeds. I went
into a favela this week for the first time in my life, and that was cool.
Nothing happened when we were there, and the Lord protects us. Ha. Its nothing
to worry about though. Elder Nogueira and I are working hard, and we are really
trying to help people to come unto Christ. That goes perfectly well with the
scripture that I want to send home this week. It is Ether 12:41. We truly need
to "Seek this Jesus". All the Prophets since the beginning of time have
prophesied about Christ. Truly there is only one path to return to live with
God in His Presence, and that is through His Son, Jesus Christ. While all of the
religions in this world are trying to get to God, God is reaching to us through
the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. As missionaries, we don't
preach about a church, we preach about the the Kingdom of God, which can only be
obtained through God's authority. This authority, was restored through the
Prophet Joseph Smith, and only the members of the Church of Jesus Christ of
Latter-day Saints have this authority. If we follow and seek this Jesus, by
being baptised and enduring to the end, we will have eternal life through His
grace. I love you all, and hope that you all have a great week.</div>

PS: I heard something about a postal strike, and that's why last year the mail took
so long about this time of year. I don't know how it will be this year... As for things being up to date here: yes, they do have big TVs and stuff,
but I'm pretty sure they are very expensive. Its a small house with a big TV type of
stuff. Only the really rich have dishwashers, and that's not very many ... They
don't have very many clothes dryers here either. But otherwise it is up to date here. As
for Halloween, they do have a "Day of Witches" which is their Halloween, but its not
celebrated too much. </div>
